Sumehra grew up in Skokie, Illinois. She moved to UIUC to pursue a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. She joined the van der Donk lab in Fall 2023 to work with Jeff to explore multinuclear non-heme iron-dependent oxidative enzymes.
