Joey comes from Nanjing, China, and started studying at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2022. He joined the van der Donk Lab in Spring 2023 to explore the substrate-induced and radical SAM-induced stereochemistry of lanthipeptides with Youran.
